Mikaela writes and speaks about her experiences as both a suicide attempt and loss survivor, exploring how these painful events intersected with her career as a student-athlete navigating a complicated mental healthcare landscape.

She has played basketball for Team Canada and Stanford University where she studied human biology (brain, behaviour, and mental health), creative writing, and science communication.

She is currently working on a second novel and designing a PhD project that will braid suicide prevention with poetry, language, and storytelling.
